Nomadic Period
First there were nomadic tribes that moved onto the peninsula. The first ones end up towards the east as new ones come in and push everyone, this happens a couple of times.
Early Brusset Era
The first settled city is Drahkmaal, in the forested mountains. It starts out as a small village built at a hot springs that develops into a religious center for the T'sa theology. The Brusso tribe are the ones who settle it and develop the religion. Over time they build a small country in the center of the peninsula called Brusset. There are still nomadic tribes to the east and west. The capitol of their newly formed country is Gartemaal, with Drakhmaal continuing as a major religious center.
Imperial Era
The Great Empire starts somewhere to the East and expands until it takes control of the peninsula. The peninsula is split into provinces and more villages and cities are founded as the nomadic tribes become settled and metal working and other crafts develop.
Post Imperial Era
The Great Empire collapses, leaving the provinces on their own. Some have strong rulers or a history of being a country and continue on. Others fall into disarray. Brusset reasserts itself as a country in a similar but smaller profile than before the Empire, with the capitol at Gartemaal. Playmovania continues on, with the Grand Duke of Playmovania being one of the final descendants of the great Emperor Vlade Augustovain. The Grand Dukes of the two western most provinces manage to maintain control over their areas, with their power centered around their capitol cities. The eastern areas of their provinces fall into disarray with just two small villages walling themselves off and managing to hang on as civilized spots. Those are the towns that develop into the city states of Midvale and Cliffside. The leader of Luxovania creates a dynasty and becomes Luxonia to the east of Brusset. In the far east of the peninsula a new ruler comes to power taking some of the territory of old Klastrovania and encroaching on Luxonia. This becomes Salish. The Tritonians make thier first landfall and hold small areas along the coast.
Early Modern Era
Moorsland gains a strong and ambitious leader in time who founds the current dynasty. It expands it's territory while Cliffside stays relatively small - just the trading city and some vineyards and orchards with rich people's villas in the nearby countryside, eventually walled in. During this period the Tritonians fully invade from the Southern Sea and take the one large harbor at Khlanmaal renaming it Tritonis Major. The Tritonians might be descendents from the Avalon - Riverway area that sailed over the top of the world. The expansion of Moorsland, Luxonia, and Tritonia leads the the splitting of Brusset into northern and southern areas under a single ruler. A new southern capitol of Akhmaal is established. The King of Salish builds a new capitol city Salishton, more centrally located for the country. Now under the power of the Luxonians, Gartemaal is renamed Gardenvale and continues to be the largest city on the peninsula.
Pavelonian Era
The situation on the peninsula is tense with many small battles and minor shifts of territory. South Brusset is overtaken by the Tritonians and Luxonians and disappears. One of the kings of Luxonia - Ixolatl the Great - has twins - a boy and a girl. Luxonia is split between them after the kings death with Upper Luxonia now being ruled by a hereditary Prince and Lower Luxonia by a hereditary Princess. Then the Grand Duke Pavel the Great came to power in Traskovania. He was very charismatic and an excellent politician. He manages to create a treaty of alliance between the different nations of the peninsula with a High King being chosen from among the rulers to settle disputes and keep things peaceful and prosperous. Pavel the Great is the first of these. His rule is long and prosperous and Traskovania is renamed Pavelvania and it's capitol Pavelton in his honour. The Alliance is called the Pavelonian Alliance and the peninsula in general is called Pavelonia.
The position of High King rotates among the different states, and things run along generally well. Then one day the Prince of Salish and the Princess of Lower Luxonia fall in love and marry. They have only one child, the current King Esmond. After his
parent's deaths he becomes ruler of both Salish and Lower Luxonia as there are no females closely related enough to claim the throne of Princess of Lower Luxonia. This creates a good deal of tension within the alliance. Young King Esmond is sensitive to
this and a good politician and manages to keep things smoothed over until he finds a wife, a young woman from far Belathre. They marry and have two children, Prince Leon of Salish and Princess Esme of Lower Luxonia. This settles thing on the peninsula
back into their ordered way. King Esmond has done such a good job of handling the tensions that he is generally considered to be the next in line to be High King. This would allow him to abdicate his rulerships in favor of his children and finalize the
restoration of balance.
Nothing is certain however. Borgiana The Grand Duchess of Playmovania is proud of her heritage and is said to be ambitious, perhaps even having dreams of recreating the ancient Smegl Empire. Or maybe she will just have one more of those little tea cakes
with the pink icing, they are fabulous.
Capitol City | Pavelton |
Ruler | High King Bjardim, Grand Duke of Pavelvania |
Pavelvania sits at the southwestern tip of the peninsula, a rocky and mountainous land. The great King Pavel The Great was responsible for the creation of the Alliance that brought peace and prosperity to the peninsula.
Capitol City | Draconis |
Ruler | Grand Duchess Borgiana Vlade |
The Grand Duchy of Playmovania, along with the Grand Duchy of Pavelvania, are the final remnants of the great Smegl Empire that once ruled the entire Sound.
Capitol City | Midvale |
Ruler | King Hector IV |
Nestled between Playmovania and Pavelvania to the west, Cliffside to the north, and Tritonia to the south, in the center of the peninsula lies Moorsland. It is an upland plateau where herding is the primary occupation.
Capitol City | Cliffside |
Ruler | The Guild Council, current Elector Master Albrecht Lorenz of the Limners Guild |
Cliffside is ruled by a Guild Council that in turn chooses an Elector to take part in Alliance discussions and vote when a new High King is chosen. Cliffside is part of the same high plateau as Moorsland, but borders the Sound. It has the only commercial import docks on the peninsula and has become a rich walled city state because of this focus upon trade. The docks complex lies at the base of the cliffs that give the city it's name. There is a long narrow track going up the cliff to the city proper, with donkeys being the most common transport on the paths. There is also a series of rope lifts used to haul cargo up. Due to the occaisional rope breakage the lifts are limited to cargo only.
Capitol City | Tritonis Major |
Ruler | Senate, current Speaker and Elector Flavius Arcanus |
Tritonia has the only other sea port in Pavelonia. Because it is on the south seashore commercial trade is far less frequent than the more easily reached and calm Cliffside. Instead fishing is the major product of the land. Though Tritonis Major faces to the south towards the sea, the frequent storms have resulted in there being few windows or doors facing towards the view. Instead they face to the north towards the inland plateau and mountains. Tritonia was the result of an invasion of the peninsula from the South Sea, the origins of the invaders are now lost to the mists of time.
It is ruled by a Senate comprised of elected members and the top ranking Military officers. Tritonia is still militarily minded though it has been at peace with it's neighbors for many years.
Capitol City | Drakhmaal |
Ruler | Portrief Kmendels Lindmal, Chancellor and Elector Khlanmaalson Valorum |
North Brusset, often called simply Brusset, is a theocracy ruled by the Portriev of the Ancient Order of T'sa. Brusset is the oldest known nation on the peninsula, predating even the Smegl Empire. Portions of the original Brusset are in Salish, Lower Luxonia and the nation of Sweetwater. Only the northern segment has survived as an independent state, though now part of the Pavelonian Alliance. The Portriev doesn't involve himself directly in politics, being too immersed in his religious duties. Political and much practical rule is handled by a Chancellor. The current Portriev is Portriev Kmedels Lindmal XXII, the Chancellor is Khlanmaalson Valorum.
Capitol City | Gardenvale |
Ruler | Prince Martel |
Luxonia was once a single nation ruled by a king. During the third Dynasty King IXlatl the Great had only two children. Twins, a boy and a girl. After the King's death the kingdom was split in two with Upper Luxonia belonging to the Prince and Lower to the Princess. These titles have continued on to this day. Traditionally Upper Luxonia is always ruled by a Prince.
Capitol City | Krindleton |
Ruler | King Esmond of Salish |
Traditionally ruled by a Princess as a counterpart to the Prince of Upper Luxonia, Lower Luxonia is in an unusual state. The last Princess, Princess Guernivanne, married the King of Salish, King Lester the Good. They had only one child, the current King Esmond. With no other closely related lines, after the death of the Princess the rule of Lower Luxonia passed to King Esmond. Many, including the Portriev of North Grusset, believe that this has caused an imbalance on the peninsula. Fortunately King Esmond has a daughter Princess Esme who will one day become the Princess proper of Lower Luxonia.
Capitol City | Salishton |
Ruler | King Esmond of Salish |
Salish sits in the south-eastern corner of Pavelonia. It has frequent close ties with Marketon and Sweetwater. King Esmond is considered a likely successor to High King Bjardim. Princess Esme of Lower Luxonia is the likely future ruler of Lower Luxonia.
Capitol City | Marketon |
Ruler | Represetative to Pavelonia, Marshall Aedelferd |
Marketon is a city state at an important crossroads. It sits between Pavelonia and Sweetwater at the junction of major river sysytems and land trade routes. It is a trading city and has a permanent Jousting Ground. After centuries of being repeatedly over run by various forces, Marketon has finally become entirely neutral. It is jointly administered by a council consisting of 3 representatives of Pavelonia, 3 of Sweetwater and 3 local residents. Because it is neutral it does not hold a vote in the Pavelonian Alliance, but does send a representative to important meetings to stay abreast of current events. The current representative to Pavelonia is the Marshall of the Lists Aedelferd.
Grand Duke of Pavelvania and elected High King of Pavelonia. Married to Queen Altimisia, they have one child Princess Juliana, Marquesa Traskovin.
Daughter of High King Bjardim and Queen Altimisia, Princess Juliana will one be Grand Duchess of Pavelvania though she has yet to marry. She is known to detest jousting and refuses to attend any jousting events. This has limited her contact with eligable young knights, and her mother often dispairs of the Princess ever marrying at all.
Decendent of the Smegl Emperors and ruler of Playmovania. She is married to Grand Duke Lupo Vlade, and is often seen with her faithful pet Fifi.
Said to be from a high ranking family in Flowerland, he won the heart of the Grand Duchess during jousting seasons past and eventually they wed.
A retired Knight of Pavelonia, Lord Edwin now raises war and jousting horses on an estate in southern Moorsland. His son Sir Cedric is an active jouster.
Sir Cedric is a knight of the court of King Hector IV of Moorsland. He is an active jouster and considers himself the arch-enemy of the Mighty Mysterioso.
Albrecht Lorenz is a Grand Master of the Limners Guild in the city state of Cliffside. He is a member of the Cliffside Guilds Council and is the current Elector to the Pavelonian High Council.
Prince and ruler of Upper Luxonia the Prince is young and ambitious, though only when nobody is looking. As he does not Joust he is thought by many to be rather idle by many, but he does have an aggressive martial spirit. He just doesn't like to make himself the center of attention all the time.
Portriev Kmedels Lindmaal XXII is the ruler of North Brusset and leader of the most ancient nation on the peninsula. A descendent of the first settlers at the hot springs that became the center of the Brusso nature based religion known as the Ancient Order of T'sa. Those springs eventually gave rise to the ruling city of Drakhmaal. North Brusset is a theocracy with the Portriev being head of the Ancient Order as well as ruler of North Brusset. Being always busy with religious duties, the Portriev is normally assisted by a Chancellor who is responsible for handling the politics and day to day operations of North Brusset.
Chancellor Valorum is the political and operations ruler of North Brusset. He defers to the Portriev who is the actual ruler, but in most secular matters he controls the ciritcal decisions.
The Chancellor acts as Elector to the Pavelonian High Council.
In addition to being Chancellor he is also an officer of the Ancient Order of T'sa, and wears the fur cape appropriate to his position.
Senator Arcanus is the Speaker of the Senate in Tritonia and acts as Elector to the Pavelonian High Council. He is a member of the Arcanus fmaily, one of the Twelve Originals who first settled Tritonia from across the sea.
One of the three Consuls that manage the military and governmental functions of Tritonia under direction of the Senate. Maximinimus has risen quickly to his Consular position through the military route. He is a strong swordsman but does not take part in jousting as he considers dependence upon a horse to be a weakness.
He is known as something of a gambler, though it doesn't appear to effect his duties.
Marshall Aedelbert is a member of the Marketon Council and representative to the Pavelonian Council, though not a voting member there.
He is the Marshall of the Lists for the jousting grounds in Marketon.
+
King Esmond is the ruler of Salish through his father and of Lower Luxonia through his mother. There are no other close relatives in the Luxonian line which led to his inheritance of the title normally reserved for a princess. His daughter Princess Esme of Lower Luxonia will eventually be the ruler of that territory. King Esmond is married to Queen Millicent and has a younger brother SIr Richard, Duke of Klastrovin. He also has a young son Prince Leon.
Eldest child and daughter of King Esmond, she will one day be the ruler of Lower Luxonia in her own right. She's rather a fan of jousting, and often chooses Sir Bartholomew as her Champion

Quite Mysterious isn't he? Shown here with his Squire Abdul
Exotic in aspect, Abdul is Squire to the Mighty Mysterioso. He has a rather odd accent that sounds somewhat Tritonian-Moorslandish but lingustic patterns of the exotic North East.
Sir Edward is the five time winner of the Joustinarod. He has retired from active jousting and now is primarily a color commentator at jousting events.
He is also the spokesman for Luna Lances
